    GCIC Business Awards

     

    Annually, The Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commmerce celebrates local businesses that have excelled, persevered and continue to provided employment, excellent products and services both locally and overseas.

    The following are the criterias for the awards :

    1. BUSINESS OF THE YEAR 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Continued membership in the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce

    • Strong market position and market share for its products/services

    • Demonstrated strong support for community development

    • Demonstrated strategy for long-term growth.

    • Demonstrated growth in business operations

     

    2. CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Made investment in an area of community life not associated with its business

    • Involved its employees at all levels, including management, in its community projects

    • Given financial and institutional support to community development project that are demonstrably sustainable

     

    3. EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated financial growth

    • Demonstrated investment in staff retention, training and  development, and recruitment

    • Facilitated staff progression for promotions

    • Demonstrated management techniques that are inclusive and shares knowledge that empowers staff to improve service to customers

    • Demonstrated techniques to increase productivity

    • Appropriate workplace facilities and environment which includes Health & Safety

     

    4. ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated the positive impact of its business practices on the environment and demonstrated actions taken to minimize negative impact

     

    5. OUTSTANDING WOMAN IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated that at least 85% of income is from production of agricultural crops or livestock farming

    • Demonstrated use of new techniques in crop production or animal husbandry

    • Have at least five employees who are paid 100% of their salaries from the farm

    • Long term plan for sustainability of farm

    • Demonstrated the use of conservation techniques

     

    6. EXCELLENCE IN AGRO PROCESSING  

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated that at least 90% of its revenue is from adding value to agricultural crops or livestock
    • Packaged products that are readily available on the local and/or export market
    • Demonstrated excellence in packaging and marketing
    • Strong market share and presence – products must be well known and well represented in the local trade

    • Demonstrated that at least 50% of products used in its operations are from local farms

    • Demonstrated use of innovative techniques in marketing and processing
    • Demonstrated focus on Health and Safety

     

    7. EXCELLENCE IN APPLICATION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Embraced digital technology as the core of its operations
    • Demonstrated use of digital technology in delivery of products/services and /or in production/manufacturing
    • Demonstrated strategic use of digital technology in marketing and sales
    • Offered digital technology solutions to other businesses

     

    8. EXCELLENCE IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated that both the internal and external customer experience is the core of its business
    • Demonstrated Increasing percentage of return guests and occupancy rate over the past 2 years
    • Conducted staff training in customer service within the eligibility period 
    • Launched initiatives that enhance the visitor experience
    • Friendly access to its facilities for people with disabilities
    • Consistently engaged in environmental preservation practices that include staff and guests

    • Demonstrated how their eco-tourism product supports and promotes the environment
    • Demonstrated positive environmental ethics which are  inclusive of conservation of the resource

     

    9. EXPORTER OF THE YEAR 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Maintained consistently high quality products that meet standards for export
    • Demonstrated export performance –growth
    • Demonstrated marketing and export strategy that leads to increasing market share
    • Demonstrated commitment to export market development

     

    10. MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Generated at least 60% of its revenue from manufacturing activities
    • Have manufacturing operations based in Grenada
    • Demonstrated strong product development and growth
    • Demonstrated strong focus on health and safety in the workplace 

     

    11. RISING STAR 

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrate their focus on a specific market niche with potential for real  growth
    • Made significant growth in their operations during the eligibility period to include but not limited to growth in revenue, increased staff, expansion of operations
    • Demonstrated a willingness to take risks to drive their business forward
    • Demonstrated passion, vision and drive to succeed

     

    12. SERVICE EXCELLENCE

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated that both the internal and external customer experience is the core of its business
    • A monitoring/reporting system which collects and evaluates data from both internal and external customers about their experiences with the business
    • Conducted staff training in customer service within the eligibility period 
    • Engaged in activities that demonstrate a commitment to improving the customer experience
    • Friendly access to its facilities for people with disabilities 

     

    13. SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

    The successful nominee would have:

    • Demonstrated financial stability
    • No more than 10 employees, including management
    • Demonstrated a sound consistent execution of a marketing plan for their product or service
    • Demonstrated that training is an integral part of the business development
    • Demonstrated potential for growth
    • Strong reputation for its products, services
    • Growing market share with demonstrated plans to build on current success
    • Demonstrated commitment to staff development and staff relations
    • Demonstrated a commitment to fulfilling their Corporate Social Responsibility

     

    14. THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE

    The successful nominee in the view of the people:

    • Provided quality goods or service      

    • Is a good corporate citizen
    • Provided Excellent customer service

     

    15. YOUNG INNOVATIVE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD

                The successful nominee:

    • Must operate within Grenada’s priority sectors for investment: tourism, agri-business, health & wellness, energy and ICT.

    • Would have Introduced new methods, or original ideas within operations, during the period under review.

    • Would have demonstrated creativity
